After unspeakable tragedy, will her heart take a new journey…or walk a well-worn path?

The Gansett Island Series, Book 3

For four of the best summers of his young life, Luke Harris was in love with Sydney Donovan, a wealthy seasonal visitor to Gansett Island. Then Sydney went off to college and never came back. She married another man and had two children while Luke remained on the island, working at McCarthy's Gansett Marina and wondering what had gone wrong between him and the only woman he ever loved. Fifteen months after Sydney suffers the tragic loss of her husband and children, she's returned to Gansett to figure out what's next, and that may very well be a rekindled love affair with the one man from her past she’s never forgotten. But is she ready for a second chance at love?

Ready for Love Gansett Island Series Book 3 edition by Marie Force Literature Fiction eBooks

Syd and Luke were in love when they were young, but circumstances drew them apart (by circumstances, it was mostly her parents). Now she's back after her husband and children were tragically killed and they have their second chance.

This one will make you cry so hard. For what Syd lost and for what she finds.

The only thing I DISLIKED was the side stories. Mac and Maddie are honestly one of the most annoying book couples I've ever read about and their parts of the story had me rolling my eyes. And, just for the record, when someone is on bedrest for pregnancy, it does not mean they have to be carried every where. It just means limited movement and avoiding stressful situations. The part where Mac actually carried Maddie down the aisle made me roll my eyes. She's not paralyzed.

Ready for Love Gansett Island Series Book 3 edition by Marie Force Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is the third book in the McCarthys of Gansett Island series. You will need tissue for this one. This is the love story of Sydney and Luke. They were sweethearts during the summers in high school. Sydney went off to college and never came back. She never told Luke she wasn't coming back. I really wanted to hate her for that but she actually was a really nice character to read about. She apologizes to Luke for never talking to him and explained it was to much pressure from her parents that caused her to act the way she did. Not a great excuse but she was 18 so fine she gets a pass. She is now on the island because her husband and both children were killed by a drunk driver. She is there to heal from her injuries as well as her loss. All Luke wants is to be there for her in whatever way she needs him to be. Their romance is a slow romance but totally worth the wait. Marie Force also introduces a bunch of secondary characters in this book she will use later on.
I am really loving this series, although if I'm being honest...I like the first two books better than this one. Don't get me wrong.... this was a very good book, but there was just something about this book that I found a little lacking. I loved Luke and had no problem with him at all but... Sydney is a whole other thing.

Yes, she went through a very tragic time in her life. And yes, I know it takes time to get over something like that. Sometimes people don't ever get past something like that, so maybe I should at least give her credit for trying to move on, but IMO- she needs to make sure she's ready to do that, before she starts something she's not willing or able to finish...

Maybe it was the wishy washy way that Sydney acted towards Luke that has me so out of sorts. One minute she was acting fine and she thought that Luke walked on water, but then the next minute she was doubting his every move. She said she was ready to move on and the next thing you know, she turns around and questions everything she does. And if she truly is ready to move on, why does she continue to keep comparing the life she has now, to the one that was taken away?

I felt like screaming at her to either get it together, or get the heck out of Luke's life for good. Luke loves her so much and he doesn't deserve to be hurt again, like she hurt him the first time around.

And her parents...boy, don't even get me started on them. I think it was very wrong of them to act the way they did 17 years ago. Judging someone only based on their wealth or education is so wrong on many levels. And it bothered me even more, that Sydney went along with it.

Yes I know she was only 19 years old at the time, but a lot of young people make major decisions on their own at that age. Just like Luke did. He had a full paid scholarship for college, but his priorities laid with staying home on the island in order to take care of his dying mother, just as they should have been.

There were times in this book that I found so riveting. Like the accident at the Marina, that involved Luke, Mac, and Big Mac. I loved the interaction between Mac & Maddie when she went into early labor, and the way Mac drove her insane. I laughed so hard. Men can be so over protective at times. LOL! I love the way all the woman stood by and supported their men.

And talking about touching moments.... I can't leave out the part about Ned being brought to tears by the threat of losing his best friend. Or the way he started regretting that the last words spoken between them were somewhat harsh, even though they were only doing what they did just about every single day that they had known each other. That was just the way it was between the two long time friends, always.. Those were some really touching moments. And I'm getting the biggest kick out of Ned trying to hide his little romance with Francine. I hope this turns out well for the two of them, because it's been a long time coming.

I love the way that Joe has stood by Janey's side through all of this too. So far though, I'm not real impressed with the way that Grant has been acting. I can see why Abby left him and moved on with her life, I don't blame her one bit. I see Grant as nothing but a spoiled brat acting out, all because he doesn't get his way. He's got this 'It's all about me' attitude I hope he loses real soon. I can't wait for someone to knock him off that pedestal, and I hope it's real soon.

Would I recommend this book? Oh yeah.

Even though I wasn't real happy with the character of Sydney in this book, there's a whole lot more going on in this book between all the other characters that I found very touching and worth the read..
My Musings

Ready for Love is the third book in the McCarthy’s of Gansett Island series. I have read/listened to the first two books in this delightful series, and now I’m hooked. I just have to find out about the rest of the McCarthys and Gansett Island. Just what I needed, another series to fall in love with! At least I can buy the next three in a bundle, to save a bit of money, but then no audio version for $1.99, decisions, decisions!

Luke Harris has been in love with Sydney Donovan since high school. Sydney went off to college and never looked back, leaving a broken-hearted Luke who has never been able to get over her. When Sydney loses her husband and children in a horrific car crash, she returns to Ganssett Island for the summer to recover from her injuries. Her first summer back, he watches from afar, giving her time to grieve.

The second summer she is there, she speaks to him, letting him know she’s aware that he’s been watching her. Does he dare open his heart to her again? Can Sydney cast off her sorrow and step into the light of Luke’s love, giving them both a second chance?

I thoroughly enjoyed Ready for Love. Luke is a great character, and an outstanding hero with his steadfast heart and quiet demeanor. His willingness to put his love out there for Sydney again, after she apologized for her actions all those years before, touched my soul. It’s refreshing to read of a hero that isn’t a womanizer. Who didn’t let his heart break ruin his life.

Sydney’s character’s devastating loss brought me to tears. Not only did she lose her husband, but her two children as well. Her remorse over how she left Luke without ever telling him it was over was sincere.

Since I listened to the audio version as well as reading this book, I want to mention the narration. Eva Kaminsky reads with a great deal of emotion, helping to pull me into the story. She give the male voice a bit of a raspy quality that helps distinguish them from the female characters. I would have enjoyed it more if she had been able to make each voice unique to the character, but I'm sure that is difficult for many narrators.

Ms. Force’s writing is emotionally-charged, yet without a lot of angst. Her story line is believable and realistic. Her books are about normal, everyday people. It’s about people who make mistakes and learn from them. I loved getting inside the characters heads from the previous three books, and while one would think it would take the focus from Luke and Sydney, it didn’t. I’m so glad I found these great books and can’t wait to read the rest of them in this series. Happy reading!
